I'm sure they'd be interested in Iggy, but I'm not so sure he'd be interested in coming given the situation they're in this year. He's likely looking for his absolute best shot at winning, and there are quite a few teams that look much more dangerous this year. Add in what the price will likely be to acquire him and I can't see it happening.

Holland on Iginla: "price was just too high and we have a young power forward in Abdelkader"

I don't see Iginla to the Wings either. They will likely want one of the Wings top young players or prospect along with a 1st round pick and a roster player...just not worth it for the Wings given Iginla's age and contract status.

I still think the Wings should be looking to sell off some roster players at the deadline given with how crazy prices will be. This is a good draft class and getting some extra 1st or 2nd round picks could be golden for the Wings future.

Pulkinnen's team (Jokerit Helsinki of the SM-Liiga) is still playing. Jarnkrok's team (Byrnas IF of Elitserien) is not.

Why would Iginla leave the Calgary Flames to join a team that's about a year or two away from being the Calgary Flames?

I kid. At least I think I'm kidding.

Oh.. good grief.. that quote by Holland is absolutely ridiculous. The fact he's that disconnected from reality is kind of scary. As if Abdelkader would ever even come close to becoming a true power forward that can finish. Abdelkader is most likely a permanent 3rd/4th liner. I don't even want Iginla... he won't be worth what Calgary wants for him and he's too old to be part of this team's future.

Agree about getting rid of some roster players... get some picks for the future.

If the Wings can't even lure home grown talent like DeKeyser to come play for them then that is PROOF POSITIVE that the kid knows he'll be stuck in Grand Rapids for 3-4 years before he will see any ice time at the Joe. Holland's reputation is most likely hurting this team from getting young free agents. They better find a way to sign this kid.

Come on, Babs was just havin a lil fun. Iginla is just a over priced rental....if Wings could get him to sign 3-4yrs @ 5mil......sure.....that way Pav should stick around.

I made up that quote from Holland I don't think he would say that about Abdelkader...at least I would hope not.

Wings have given young players like Lashoff, Tatar, Anderson and Nyquist some NHL playing time this year without being out of waiver options but how much and how many of them would have without all the injuries is likely a different story.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if DeKeyser signs somewhere else. Wings will have Kronwall, Quincey, Ericsson, Lashoff, Colaiacovo (unless he's bought out which I hope), Smith and Kindl back which would likely put DeKeyser in Grand Rapids no matter how he plays in training camp. If he looks at this and then looks at some other teams with open spot, I doubt he will pick the Wings.

I really hope the Wings trade Sammy/Colaiacovo and if they can't then they should buy them out. That 5.5 million could be better spent on a player(s) that can actually add something and at least play 2 games in a row before going on IR.

For whatever they can get and if not then buy him out. I didn't want Samuelsson back and don't miss him and his useless shots to the goalies logo. That 3 million could be better spent on something they actually need like a good top 4 puck moving defenseman or a better forward.

Oh.... well then I'm glad you made that up. I'd like to think Holland wouldn't make that statement.... maybe there is still hope.

Yeah... I'm not very optimistic the Wings will get DeKeyser. I'm about 75% sure DeKeyser will sign with a team that will guarantee him some ice time. Holland will not take a chance and do that. Holland needs to realize that the true young talent want and demand a shot a lot sooner than the way it use to be. They aren't going to deal with an organization that's going to stick them down on the farm for 3-4 years. This is the new NHL.... look no further than Schultz with Edmonton.

Also a team like the Senators that has open spots on defense for next season and are not afraid to put in young players. Oilers also could make him the same offer they made to Schultz and they likely will have plenty of room to offer him a spot right off the bat. These things will all factor into it. Plenty of teams will want to offer him a spot instead of just a shot to get him to sign with them.

We'll see I guess but i'm not holding my breath. I'm higher on Sproul and even Jensen anyways and both are right handed shots.

Saw from about half way on, gotta say they all looked pretty good; Gustavsson had some huge saves, lots of nice quick passing, power play generating lots of chances, but Nyquist had a really rough game. Lost the puck quite a bit in the second and near the end he was not seeing any ice at all but then the one shift he got out there gave up the shorthanded breakaway.

You missed the right part (first half). They looked slow and kept turning over the puck in the first half of the game. Luckily they woke up in the 2nd half and played better.

Nyquist needs to get stronger and stop trying those inside out moves every time he goes one on one. That might work a lot in the AHL but the defensemen in the NHL will get chewed out if they don't play the body in those situations and they know that. Once in a while it works (or more if you have Datsyuk hands) but not as often as he tries it. Granted he tries and does show some skill and creativity but its not all there yet for him at the NHL level.

Not impressed with Nyquist's game so far at the NHL level.... still time for him to develop, but he has to start to understand how to get to the dirty areas.

Last game I saw was real rough for him for sure, dirnt see last night but appsrently he was on the fourth line which to me is pointless. Guy like that needs to play with other skilled guys to be successful.

Nice to see they got dekeyser, wonder if he'll jump right in.

I'm sure that was part of the negotiations, no way this kid wants to spend a lot of time in the minors. Let him play, if he's good he stays if he sucks he goes down.
